NEW 11/2/11: PRESS RELEASE: COMPACT TO WORK ON COLUMBUS CITY CHARTER CHANGE

The Columbus Compact Corporation (“the Compact”) has been working with the Olde Towne East Block Watch and many other neighborhoods in the Near East and Near South areas of Columbus.

The organizations held a joint press conference on October 19, 2011, and the following are major elements of the Press Packet:

Press Release: Compact and OTE Block Watch Release Public Safety Strategy and Survey Results

"Columbus Safe Neighborhoods Target Zone" overview of Proposed Demonstration Project

Near East and Near South Neighborhood Safety Survey (raw data without confidential text fields.  Confidential information to be provided to appropriate law enforcement)

Community Goals for 9/29/11 Council Meeting on Drugs and Gun Violence in Columbus Neighborhoods

"Council Challengers Join in Crime Complaints," Columbus Dispatch, October 20, 2011

Videotaped Comments of Robert Bridges, Jr., Candidate for Columbus City Council, at Press Conference of October 19, 2011

You be the judge -- a long-term good-faith effort to engage the City?, or documentation of the longest lasting "political stunt" in Columbus's history:

8/20/10 Letter from Neighborhood Leaders Seeking to Engage Major Stakeholders on Neighborhood Safety Issues

9/9/10 Community Safety Working Group Meeting Minutes

10/12/10 Community Safety Working Group Meeting Minutes

11/16/10 Community Safety Working Group Meeting Minutes

Testimony to City Council's Public Safety Committee: "A Comprehensive Approach to Address Issues Caused by Trespass and Loitering: Recommendations to Columbus City Council," Columbus Compact Corporation, July 12, 2011

Michelle Mills' Resume as posted on Columbus City Council webpage.  Ms. Mills, a lifetime social worker and human services professional, would likely make a great Chair of the Council's Health, Housing and Human Services Committee, but has absolutely no relevant experience to Chair the Council's Judiciary and Public Safety Committee.  This appointment was a mistake, and it has hurt our neighborhoods.
